Getting To Know Your Coaches

Coach Jeff Koerner

Picture
My name is Coach Koerner (as the students know me). I wanted to introduce myself and allow you to get to know me and a little bit of my background. I am the Athletics Director for Harmony Science Academy in Grand Prairie as well as the department head for Health & PE.  I am also the Head Boys Football Coach for Jr. High & High School, Head Boys Basketball Coach, & Soccer Coach.  I graduated in 2009 from Texas Tech University.  I am a HUGE RED RAIDERS FAN!!  I received a Bachelors of Science degree is Exercise Sports Science.  I double minored in Health & Secondary Education.  I have a beautiful wife named Kimberly who I married on March 13th, 2010.  We are now expecting our first child on April 1st, 2012.  That is no April fool's joke!  I enjoy watching or participating in all sports.  My favorite sport is baseball followed closely by basketball.  When I have a free weekend, I love to play golf!  It's a great way to relax on the weekends!  I was born and raised in a small East Texas town called Emory.  I was raised in a family of 7, so I am well versed at making sure I get food when it's time to eat!  Our house was never a dull place!  I am also an avid hunter.  I love to hunt a wide variety of animals.  My wife however, does not hunt.  I'm still working on her...  I am also a Huge Texas Rangers Baseball Fan!  I go to & watch as many Rangers games as possible and follow them closely on road games!  My favorite chips are honey wheat pretzles.  My favorite candy bar is Snickers.  My favorite soda is Dr. Pepper.  My favorite meal is Chicken Spaghetti.  My favorite memory of last year was helping coach our Tiger Soccer Team to their first ever Harmony Athletic League Championship victory!

My goal at Harmony Science Academy is to show students that physical activity is fun and very healthy.  Many students' view physical activity as a chore and I want to change that mind set to one that merges their interests with something physically active.  This in turn will allow the students to see how physical activity is fun & healthy!  My ultimate goal is to instill a lifestyle of physical activity & healthy choices in each student I teach.  If you would like to know more or meet with me, please feel free to contact me through the information below.

Coach Jared Knight

My name is Jared Knight and I am the Head Coach for Girls Varsity Volleyball and Basketball.  I have played basketball my entire life and played four years of varsity basketball at Trinity Valley School in Fort Worth. My volleyball career started in 9th grade, and quickly led to representing United States volleyball in Italy, playing in the Junior Olympics, being elected to the 2007 All-Area Team by the Dallas Morning News, and creating and coaching the Men’s Club Volleyball Team at the University of Richmond, where I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 2008.  I also play tennis, disc golf, baseball, kickball, or whichever other sport comes my way.

I have been coaching ever since helping out with summer basketball camps at Trinity Valley and learned some great tips from former Dallas Maverick and four-time NBA All-Star, Rolando Blackman. I also coached the Men’s Club Volleyball Team at UR, which was both rewarding and frustrating, as college kids do not like to wake up early for weekend practices. Nonetheless, I learned plenty about coaching strategies and dealing with various levels of athlete.

This is my second year at Harmony Science Academy where I also teach Social Studies, Spanish, and Debate for grades 6-11.  My experience at Harmony so far has been a rewarding one and all of the students I have met are great and unique in their own way.

On a personal note, my wife of almost 2 years, Lindsay, and I live in southwest Arlington with our dog, Bogie. Lindsay works at the University of North Texas at Dallas as the Student Programs Coordinator. Three of my four siblings and both of my parents live nearby, so we get to spend a lot of time with them.  We’re always looking to find new activities and meet new people, so feel free to talk to us after the basketball games.

Finally, thank you for your support of HSA-GP Athletics!
